Aged Care Report Card

Now CarePage · through ITConnect

Role
Business Analyst
Period
May 2016 to December 2016
Industry
Aged care
Setting
Founder-led product, built through ITConnect

This was my first role as a business analyst. I worked directly with the founder to turn her vision for the platform into requirements a development team could build without guessing.

The company

Aged Care Report Card was an Australian platform established in 2014 to help families find and review aged care, home care and retirement services. As it grew it was renamed CarePage, and today it describes itself as a care intelligence platform that brings resident feedback, staff experience, complaints and compliance data together for providers.

I worked on the platform through ITConnect, a Sri Lankan software development company.

Starting as a business analyst

I joined in May 2016, new to business analysis. I got the chance to work closely with the founder herself, eliciting and analysing her requirements, researching the domain, and preparing business requirement documents, functional specifications and prototypes. I then took her through each of them to get sign off.

Getting the standards right

Much of the platform had to line up with the aged care quality standards, so I mapped the product to those standards, including the detailed survey and scoring logic behind them. Pinning that logic down early meant the team was not discovering it halfway through the build.

Building exactly what was needed

Once the requirements were signed off, I explained them to the development team using wireframes and UML, including the process flows. I sat with the developers while they built and clarified intent as questions came up, so they built exactly what was needed and we avoided rework. That kept development cycles short and let us deliver value quickly.

Delivery from start to finish

The role quickly grew beyond analysis. I gathered estimates, planned and tracked the schedule, managed change, handled third party integrations and outsourced work, and coordinated user acceptance testing all the way through to deployment and release.
