I'm a business analyst who grew into a project manager, and I've never stopped being either. For more than ten years I've delivered enterprise software and AI solutions across healthcare, health insurance, hospitality, aged care, accounting, logistics, travel, advertising and workplace safety.
I started out writing code at Virtusa, moved into business analysis, and took on my first project manager role in 2016. Since then I've built a PMO from nothing, implemented enterprise products for more than 20 US healthcare provider groups, taken a hotel platform from concept to more than 1,000 hotels, and brought applied AI into work that used to be done by hand.
The business analyst in me
I can picture how a product works as soon as I hear about it. I love seeing how different teams and functions come together into one stream to deliver value for a business, understanding the work inside each of them, and finding ways to make it easier, faster and better. That's what lets me move between industries, learn a new domain quickly and shape solutions that are built on the basics but focused on efficiency.
The project manager in me
The same instinct lets me picture the scenarios a project will face and where we need to focus. I plan around the real needs and the risks, catch slips in schedule, budget or scope early, and handle risks, issues and dependencies before they become problems. I work out what each stakeholder group needs to hear and keep all of them in the loop, and I rely on clear communication, good negotiation and a team that works well together.
Having both is what shapes how I see delivery. A project is delivered when the people who asked for it get what they expected, and go-live is only one step on the way. A business owner running accounts receivable recovery gets little from a system that just copies their Excel sheets and books. What they need is one that never lets a receivable or payment slip past them, and that helps them bring their AR down. That's the result I work towards.
Coming from rowing, I know how much a team matters, and I still believe teamwork makes the dream work. I enjoy working with all kinds of people, at work and outside of it. I'm proud of everything I've delivered for organisations around the world, but I'm proudest of helping people reach the heights they once only dreamed of.
